Detroit, MI (PRWEB) August 7, 2008 — GreenrMe (http://www.greenr.me) is a newly launched website that solves the problem of the steadily increasing online carbon footprint. Most people are aware of the offline carbon footprint that consists of the usual suspects of home energy, automotive and airline travel. But, another source that may be overlooked is the carbon dioxide emissions that are a result of online activity. GreenrMe calculates users’ online carbon footprints and gives them free carbon offsets to become carbon neutral online.
How many web pages does the average Internet user have when their totaling their pages on MySpace, Facebook, blog and others? Then think about the number of times their friends and family visit those pages. Now multiply that by the millions of people that use these websites every day. The final number of web pages being served on the Internet is staggering and it takes a great amount of electricity to power all of those computers to serve those pages. In the US, the majority of the electricity comes from power plants that emit carbon dioxide as a by-product. Therefore, a small amount of carbon dioxide emissions can be traced back to each time a web page is served. This is the problem that GreenrMe solves by giving carbon offsets to their users for each served page thereby making their pages carbon neutral.
GreenrMe easily keeps track of the carbon dioxide generated by each user’s web pages. When users sign up with GreenrMe, they get a small piece of code that can be added to each of their pages. This code will display the GreenrMe Carbon Counter and lets everyone know how much carbon dioxide has been generated by the page as well as the amount of carbon offsets that GreenrMe has given to keep the page carbon neutral. “We wanted a simple process that everyone could use to make their online presence carbon neutral. Right on our website and in just a few seconds, you can post our code to several different social networks and blogs. Not only are our carbon counters functional, they’re beautiful as well, and make your web page greener in more ways than one,” said Mark Crawford, CEO of GreenrMe.
GreenrMe is sponsor supported and uses those funds to acquire carbon offsets to make the online web pages in its network carbon neutral. Signing up for GreenrMe is free and the carbon counters can be placed on an unlimited number of pages. To sign up for a GreenrMe account visit http://www.greenr.me.
